Villa Paola sits on the antique Cava Romana of Porto Rotondo, that in Roman times was a colony of slaves who worked at the local granite quarry overlooking the “round port”. The granite was transported to the port by means of a natural pathway to be loaded on the ships. In the garden of the villa “La Cava del Tom” still exist remnants of stone used to extract the two antique columns admired even today at the opening of the tourist port and the smaller ones at the entry Rotondo.
